Pablo Aimar To Be Unveiled At Johor DT

JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) are set to unveil their latest big-name signing – former Argentinian international Pablo Aimar – at the Larkin Stadium on Saturday.
The 34-year-old, who spent most of his career in Europe with clubs like Valencia, Real Zaragoza and Benfica, is set to sign a contract with the Southern Tigers.
Aimar is no stranger to Larkin Stadium, having played here once during the 1997 World Youth Cup which Malaysia hosted.
He played in the quarter-finals against England and scored a goal. He went on to help Argentina win the tournament.
The Johor FA expect a big crowd to gather at the stadium during the unveiling of Aimar, who will be the biggest foreign player to play in Malaysia.
Aimar began his career with River Plate in 1995 before moving to Spain, where he joined Valencia (2001-2006) and then Real Zaragoza (2006-2008).
He then left for Portugal to sign with Benfica in 2008 before leaving the club last year. He also played for Argentina in the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and 2006.
Aimar’s arrival is a clear show of intent by Johor FA president Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim to strengthen JDT’s bid for next season.
Aimar had made a surprise visit to Johor on July 21 at the the invitation of Tunku Ismail, who has promised Johor fans that he would make JDT a powerhouse next season.
He has also hired Cesar Ferrando Jimenez as the new manager, Andres Tevar as the tactical coach and also signed new Spanish striker Braulio Nobrega Rodriguez last month.
