Another Malaysian brainstorming session

KUANTAN:

Former national footballers will attend a Youth and Sports Ministry-organised brain-storming session on ways to improve the standard of Malaysian football in Putrajaya on Feb 4.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob hoped the ex-players would provide him with positive feedback to improve the sport.

“We hope they (ex-nationals) will give their views on the subject without fear or favour,” said Ismail Sabri after officiating the Maal Hijrah celebration at Felda Triang 3 in Bera on Thursday.
“We want to get to the root of the problem and we hope to exchange ideas with one another to help save Malaysian football.”

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) came under heavy fire following the 5-0 mauling by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Asian Cup qualifying round opening match last week.

Among the football veterans invited to the discussions are “Raja Bola” Datuk Abdul Ghani Minhat, Datuk Soh Chin Aun and Santokh Singh.

Ismail Sabri said the meeting was not to find to find a scapegoat for the poor state of the game in the country.

“It is not right to put the blame here or there because it would not solve anything. It is better for us to sit down and come up with new ideas,” he said.

COMMENT - sorry but before you can remedy something you need to find out what causes the malaise. Gobfests are 10 a penny, or should I say ringitt, and Malaysian football fans, especially the 5,000 who turned up for the UAE debacle, deserve answers and a better future
