Football: Sarawak trio to train with Hartlepool
By SHARON LING
KUCHING: Three Sarawak footballers have been selected to attend a two-month training stint with English League One side Hartlepool United.
Joseph Kalang Tie, 21, Mohd Shahrol Saperi, 24, and Zamri Morshidi, 25, will leave on Oct 28 for the November-December stint.
Social Development and Urbanisation Minister Datuk William Mawan said the three were core players in Sarawak’s Super League squad last season.
“They were selected to undergo this (training) programme with the hope and intent that they will improve technically and mentally,” he told a press conference here on Tuesday.
He said the stint was the first step towards a meaningful collaboration between the Sarawak team and Hartlepool in areas such as youth and football development programmes.
“Hartlepool United can provide Sarawak with ideas and information on how to structure our youth development programme more efficiently,” he said.
Kalang said he wanted to learn as much as possible during his time with Hartlepool. “I’m excited about the trip and I hope to improve my skills,” he added.
