Good news for Palembang

It may not be the final everyone wanted, including the Indonesian FA whose sole chance of profit from co hosting the Asian Cup comes from ticket sales but at least a Saudi Arabia v Iraq final should be a lot of fun. I've seen the Saudis three times now, against Indonesia, Uzbekistan and last night's semi against Japan and each have been wonderful advertisments for Asian football. Saudi attack with power and speed and possess players with good technique. Their first goal last night was one Ian Rush or Robbie Fowler would have been proud of. Quick reactions in a crowded box and a sweet finish. And as for Malek's second...if that had been Ronaldinho we would never hear the end of it.

Hopefully some of the Japanese and Koreans might venture over to Palembang for the third/fourth place play off and create some atmosphere there. The last game which featured Saudi and Bahrain had the proverbial one man and his dog watching.
